What should I eat when I have no appetite on Wegovy?
Eat protein first, in a small portion you can finish. Greek yogurt, eggs, cottage cheese, chicken, tuna, or a shake. A 2025 joint advisory from four US nutrition and obesity societies says regular small meals when hunger is low, and enough protein so you keep muscle. This is not medical advice.

Small protein foods that still go down
| Food | Protein | Calories | When it fits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nonfat Greek yogurt, 170 g container | 17 g | 100 kcal | A cold fridge cup. No chew fight. The few bites people actually finish. |
| Low-fat (1%) cottage cheese, ½ cup (113 g) | 14 g | 81 kcal | Half a bowl if a full cup is too much. Soft, cold, already in the fridge. |
| One large hard-boiled egg | 6.3 g | 78 kcal | One-handed. Already boiled. A few bites, not a plate. |
| Roasted chicken breast, 2 oz (57 g), meat only | 18 g | 94 kcal | Leftover bites from last night. Stop when the stomach says stop. |
| Canned tuna in water, 3 oz (85 g) drained | 20 g | 109 kcal | The pantry tin. High protein, almost no chewing volume. |
| fairlife Core Power, 14 oz | 26 g | 170 kcal | When chewing is the blocker. Label, not a USDA recipe. Sip it. |
Yogurt, cottage cheese, egg, chicken, and tuna are USDA FoodData Central figures, read October 12, 2026: FDC 170894, 173417, 173424, 171477, and 175158. The egg is one large egg at 50 g. The Core Power bottle is fairlife’s 26 g label, same date. Brands of yogurt and cottage cheese vary. Read the cup in your fridge.
The 2025 joint advisory (American College of Lifestyle Medicine, American Society for Nutrition, Obesity Medicine Association, The Obesity Society) names lower-volume protein foods when appetite is low: fish, eggs, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, and nuts or nut butters. It also names cottage cheese, soups, and smoothies or protein drinks made with unsweetened milk or yogurt as often more appealing than heavy foods such as red meat or hard cheese. Some people meet their protein target with high-protein shakes. That is food, not a prescription.
Regular small meals, not one big plate
| Habit | What the 2025 advisory says | What that looks like on Wegovy |
|---|---|---|
| When hunger is gone | Regular, small meals at consistent times. Small, frequent meals may help when hunger and food interest are low. | Eat a few bites of protein on a clock, not when you feel like it. Appetite may not show up. |
| What to put first | Lean proteins: poultry, fish or seafood, and eggs. Dairy: yogurt, milk, cheese. Lower-volume protein: fish, eggs, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese. | Protein first. Then fruit, vegetables, or a carb if there is room. Toast and jelly fill the few bites first. |
| How big the plate is | Avoid consumption of large meals. | A restaurant plate is too much. Stop at the protein. Come back in a few hours. |
| Skipping until dinner | Avoid long periods without meals. | An empty day then one dinner you cannot finish. Small bites now, small bites later. |
| Fluids | Ensure adequate fluids. | Sip through the day. Wegovy’s site says diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting can dehydrate you. Call your prescriber if you cannot keep fluids down. |
Those eating-habit lines are from the same 2025 advisory, read October 12, 2026. The Obesity Society’s May 30, 2025 summary lists adequate protein and strength training to preserve lean mass as one of eight nutritional priorities. Protein alone is likely not enough without resistance training. Ask your prescriber for your number. An app only adds the grams you logged.
Wegovy’s own FAQ, read October 12, 2026, says the medicine works like GLP-1 to reduce appetite so you eat less. For nausea it tells you to ask your healthcare professional whether smaller, more frequent meals would help, whether to eat more slowly and stop as soon as you feel full, and whether to avoid fatty, greasy, or spicy foods. Its nausea page names bland, low-fat foods such as crackers, toast, and rice, and foods that contain water, such as soups and gelatin, as things your clinician may recommend. Those are nausea tips from the manufacturer, not the protein floor. Medication questions belong to your prescriber.
What fills you up before the protein
| Food | The protein job | Why it misses |
|---|---|---|
| Toast, crackers, or jelly first | Almost none in a few bites | Fills the only bites you have. Wegovy names crackers and toast for nausea. Eat them if your prescriber said to. They are not the yogurt or the chicken. |
| A large restaurant plate | Varies, then you stop halfway | The advisory says avoid large meals. A few bites of the protein, then stop. Share it or box it. |
| Most fast food, greasy or spicy plates | Low protein per bite | The advisory lists most fast foods to minimize. Wegovy asks whether to skip fatty, greasy, or spicy food. Ask your prescriber if that is your nausea trigger. |
| Nothing until late dinner | Zero until then | The advisory says avoid long periods without meals. A few bites now beat a plate you cannot start at 8 p.m. |
People on Wegovy still reach for toast because it goes down. The few bites are the whole meal now. Put the yogurt, egg, chicken, tuna, or shake in those bites. If you cannot keep food or fluids down, or you have stomach pain that will not go away, Wegovy’s safety page says to tell your healthcare professional. This page does not treat nausea, dose, or side effects.
Your protein target, and what an app can know
| Job | Who does it | What it does not do |
|---|---|---|
| The Wegovy shot | Shotsy | Own comparison, read October 12, 2026: no photo or barcode meal scanner. Core dose log is free. iPhone and Android. |
| Verified protein grams from food | Cronometer | Search and barcode on the free tier. Photo Log is Gold. Pages we read do not describe an Ozempic, Wegovy, or Zepbound dose log. iPhone, Android, web. |
| A food diary you already keep | MyFitnessPal | Free diary logs protein on each item. Custom protein goals sit on Premium. GLP-1 Support logs the dose next to meals in the United States on iOS and Android, and in Canada on iOS in English. iPhone, Android, web. |
| A next-meal answer from today’s log | NutriCam | Does not log shots or doses, and does not treat side effects. iPhone only. |
No phone sees the few bites unless you log them. Photograph them, say them, scan them, or type them. Then remaining protein is a real number against the target your prescriber set. The 2025 advisory cites the adult RDA of 0.8 g of protein per kilogram per day, notes higher targets such as 1.2–1.6 g/kg/day proposed during active weight reduction, and an alternative absolute target of 80–120 g/day. Intake should not fall below 0.4–0.5 g/kg/day. Prolonged intake at or above 2 g/kg/day should be avoided. We do not set that number.
People already ask ChatGPT for protein ideas from what is in the house. It does not keep a running total unless you paste a table every time. Memory is not a food log. Use a diary for grams eaten. Keep medication questions with your prescriber.
Apps that track protein next to an Ozempic or Zepbound shot, by job: best app to track protein on Ozempic or Zepbound. How a next-meal answer is built: what should I eat next. What the app is: what is NutriCam. Protein from a plate photo: which app tracks protein from a photo. Photo numbers are estimates: how accurate are AI photo calorie counting apps.
NutriCam, which we make, photographs a meal or takes a spoken sentence, then answers what to eat next from today’s log, targets, workouts, and Apple Health sleep when connected. Confirm the portion before you trust the remaining grams. Skip it if you need Android, a verified food database, or a GLP-1 shot log.
Eat the protein first, in a small portion, then log whatever actually went in. NutriCam is an iPhone advisor: photograph a meal or say what you ate, confirm the estimate, and see protein so far. It does not log shots or doses, does not treat side effects, and is not on Android.
No app can measure a meal from a photo. A picture cannot show oil, sauces, hidden ingredients, or portion weight. Every number from every app on this page is an estimate until you correct the foods and portions. We have not run an accuracy test across these apps, so this page makes no accuracy ranking.
FAQ
Should I skip meals if I am not hungry on Wegovy?
No. The 2025 joint advisory says regular, small meals at consistent times, and to avoid long periods without meals. Wegovy’s own site asks whether smaller, more frequent meals would help. If you cannot keep food or fluids down, call your prescriber. This is not medical advice.
Is a protein shake enough when I cannot chew a meal?
It can be one serving. The 2025 advisory says smoothies and protein drinks with unsweetened milk or yogurt are often more appealing than heavy foods, and that some people meet protein targets with high-protein shakes. Read the label. Solids still count. This is not medical advice.
How much protein should I eat on Wegovy?
Ask your prescriber. The 2025 advisory cites the adult RDA of 0.8 g/kg/day and notes higher targets such as 1.2–1.6 g/kg/day during active weight reduction, or an absolute 80–120 g/day. Intake should not fall below 0.4–0.5 g/kg/day. An app does not set the target.
Should I eat crackers or toast first because they go down easier?
Wegovy’s nausea page names bland, low-fat foods like crackers, toast, and rice as something your clinician may recommend. Those are not the protein. Eat the yogurt, eggs, chicken, or shake first when you can keep food down. Call your prescriber if you cannot eat.
What if I only manage a few bites?
Eat the protein bites first, then stop. Come back in a few hours. The advisory wants small meals, not one large plate you cannot finish. Log the few bites so remaining protein is a real number. This is not medical advice.
Is food advice from an app medical advice?
No. The 2025 joint advisory is clinical nutrition guidance. Wegovy’s site is the manufacturer’s. USDA numbers are food composition, not a prescription. None of the apps on this page is a medical device. Nutrition from a photo is an estimate. See your prescriber.
